Kerry's Deividas Uosis set for AFL move to Brisbane Lions

Upcoming Kerry prospect Deividas Uosis is set to join AFL side Brisbane Lions ahead of the 2021 season.

The Lithuanian-born player - who moved to Dingle at the age of four - impressed scouts at the AFL European Combine in Dublin last December and has earned himself a two-year deal, signing as a Category B rookie.

Uosis was one of the standout players at last year's combine, leading the field with a 2.76 seconds time in the 20-metre sprint.

Combining this time with his 7.92 seconds score in the agility test, Uosis would have ranked at number one at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Similarly, Uosis' Yo-Yo test result of 21.5 was better than that of the top performer at the AFL Combine down under.

Given those standout scores, the Dingle man attracted interest from several clubs, but he has opted to join the Brisbane Lions and will link up with the club in October.

He will join another Irish recruit, Dublin's James Madden, who signed for the Lions in 2018. Mayo's Pearce Hanley spent eight with years with the club before joining Gold Coast after the 2016 season.

The 19-year-old has played primarily in goal for his county at home and won an All-Ireland medal with the Kingdom in 2017 when he was between the sticks for a campaign that culminated in a final hammering of Derry at Croke Park.

He has also been on the fringes of the Kerry senior squad and played schools football with Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne.

Uosis' versatility has been underlined by his ability to play in goal or outfield, as he has done for much of his career to date, and he is set to follow the path taken by other Kerry minor graduates in recent years.

Stefan Okunbor - an All-Ireland minor medallist in 2016 - is with the Geelong Cats while another Dingle man Mark O'Connor is also on the Cats' books.
