Liam Griffin on Brian Cody: "There's a myth there that he kind of dominates the sideline"

The much anticipated clash between local hurling rivals Wexford and Waterford takes place this weekend with a place in the All-Ireland semi-final up for grabs.

While most eyes will be on the on-field action, there is the possibility of two animated sets of management running the sidelines as the game progresses.

Former Wexford hurler Liam Griffin joined Thursday's Off the Ball to discuss the influence from the men on the other side of the white line.

"You've got to work hard on the line," he told Joe Molly, adding: "If you're passive on the line - the players aren't even happy with you.

"Players like fellas to say 'listen' or whatever or give some instruction. I think in hurling - that's what's going to happen.

"But as regards Davy, I'm backing Davy to not be in the box for anymore than 30 seconds and I don't blame him.

"I think that the sideline is interesting in hurling in particular - fellas do get carried away and do a bit but I suppose the lads involved felt they had to stand up to Brian Cody.

"There's a myth there that he kind of dominates the sideline and that's not necessarily true," he said.
