Mayo's Oisin Mullin poised for a move to the AFL

Young Footballer of the Year Oisin Mullin is set to move to the AFL.

It's reported that the Mayo star will join Geelong Cats as an international rookie.

His departure will come as a major blow to Mayo, for whom he has starred in recent seasons.

The 21-year-old broke through last year, winning an All-Star and the Young Player of the Year accolade as Mayo reached the All-Ireland final.

He again had a central role in their progress to the decider this year but missed the semi-final with Dublin.

Mullin was back in the team for the final against Tyrone, which Mayo lost.

He has been linked with a move Down Under for some time and joins a club where there is already a significant Irish presence.

Zach Tuohy and Mark O'Connor are already there, while another Mayo All-Star, Rachel Kearns, is involved with the club's AFLW side.

Mullin is currently immersed in Kilmaine's Mayo club championship campaign.

The south Mayo men are preparing for an Intermediate Championship semi-final this weekend against Mayo Gaels.

They won the junior title last year, with Mullin playing a central role at midfield.

Ultan Kelm and Fionn O'Hara are among the other promising footballers who have opted for life down under in recent times.

Meanwhile, a former AFL prospect has decided not to return to inter-county football next season.

Sligo's Red Og Murphy says he will instead be focussing on club duty and at third level with DCU.

The Curry club man spent time with North Melbourne but returned home and featured for Sligo in the last two years.

His decision comes as a major blow to the county, who will be attempting to exit a competitive Division Four in 2022.

Cavan and Tipperary are among the sides now operating in the bottom tier having suffered relegation this year.
