Meath beat Dublin in All-Ireland final to complete fairytale

Meath have beaten Dublin by two points to complete one of the greatest fairytales in Irish sport in recent times.

1-11 to 0-12 was the final score at Croke Park as the Royals won their very first All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship titles.

The win also comes just over eight months on from Eamon Murray's side winning the intermediate championship.

Meath led the game from start to finish and looked far hungrier than Dublin, especially in the first half.

They who a free through Vikki Wall in the first passage of play that Stacey Grimes puts over the bar and they never looked back from there.

In possibly the most crucial moment of the game Emma Duggan's effort lobbed the keeper to find the back of the net in the 8th minute and from then on it looked as if a major upset was on.

Niamh O'Sullivan, Emma Troy and Bridgetta Lynch all also got their names on the scoreboard for the Royals to see them lead 1-8 to0-6 at half-time.

A terrific 30 minutes of football from Meath with them able to answer anything thrown at them by dublin, dominating all over the pitch with a really effective running game.

Naturally, the pace of the game calmed down after the break and it looked as if Meath's fitness might cost them as Dublin came into the game more and more.

Dublin, perhaps incorrectly, started the half looking for a goal rather than taking point-scoring opportunities that came their way.

Megan Thynne and Niamh Gallogly were introduced in the 46th minute and made a massive impact as Meath kept the scoreboard ticking over.

They had a bit of luck on their side too as Jennifer Dunne's effort came off the post in the 53rd minute when a score would have narrowed Meath's lead to just one point.

Murray's side then responded with a point from Niamh O'Sullivan and it just looked like it was going to be their day.

They seemed to want it more and particularly in the first half brought more to the game.

The clock ticked down and Dublin couldn't get their hands on the ball as Meath held on to win by two points and complete an incredible journey.
