Michael Donoghue: "We probably packed in the good, the bad and the ugly"

Galway beat Waterford 2-22 to 2-19 at Pearse Stadium to advance to the National League semi-final on Sunday.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan afterwards, Galway manager Michael Donoghue said: "We probably packed in the good, the bad and the ugly. Probably hadn't a great start again and it took us a good bit to get up to the pace of it. Waterford started really well and the message from us at half-time was that we had probably created as many chances and scoring opportunities as they had but theirs went over whereas ours didn't.

"We finished the first half in a good vain and the message was just to go out and try and start on a positive foot in the second half.

"Waterford are a great team and we're not getting carried away by the win at all today. The boys just showed great heart, great spirit and we've said it since we came in to the job  - the biggest thing we want out of these players is consistency," he added.

Speaking on the injury to star man Joe Canning, he said: "He had a calf injury coming into the game from last week but we were just about to take him off before he got sent off. He has shown great leadership with Davy and for any team to progress you need your big players and leaders to be on top form and the two of them were very good today."

Galway will play Limerick in the NHL semi-final.
