Michael Ryan: "Galway are a very fine side and we have to congratulate them"

Tipperary manager Michael Ryan was proud of his players despite their defeat to Galway at Croke Park on Sunday.

The Tribesmen won by the narrowest of margins by 0-22 to 1-18 and Ryan was magnanimous in defeat afterwards.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre after the match, he said: "Ah sure look it, the over-riding emotion is disappointment. Disappointment for our lads because they're just a super bunch of lads. I couldn't praise them enough in terms of the effort that they've put in.

"So that's the overriding emotion but look having said that, a very finely poised game - very well balanced between two sides.

"That's the third time that we've had a point margin between us. Unfortunately it went against us but that seems to be the pattern - we take one each.

"Galway are a very fine side and we have to congratulate them. They're very worthy All-Ireland finalists and from our perspective I think they'll have a big say in September," he added.

Tipperary played arguably played their best game of the season on Sunday given they went toe-to-toe with the form team in the country right now.

"We struggled to do that (perform), certainly in the league final. That was the huge non-performance from Tipp this year. We lost in the first round to Cork but we did play quite well. I fact, I'd suggest we played very well but Cork were excellent, absolutely excellent and that set us off on a completely different road that we had to travel.

"But, you know, in typical fashion, our fellas stuck with it and worked exceptionally hard as they always do. It's no mean feat to arrive up here on All-Ireland semi-final day. The disappointment is not to be going through."
