New GAA Director happy to help Na Fianna

The new Director General of the GAA has stated that the association would be willing to offer assistance to Na Fianna as they deal with the fallout following the unveiling of construction plans for MetroLink.

The Glasnevin club are set to lose their main pitch on Mobhi Road for a minimum of three years, but possibly as many as six, when construction work starts on the underground rail system.

Two of the club's all-weather pitches will also be requisitioned for the project.

In a separate story, Templeogue Synge Street have proposed the part-sale of Dolphin Park in order to pay off a debt that the GAA now holds.

The playing fields have been used for 40 years by south inner city club Kevin's Hurling & Camogie who say that the sale would have a devastating effect on an area that is already severely lacking in playing fields.

Tom Ryan held his first official media engagement as the GAA's new DG where he was asked if the association could help either club.

"First and foremost, it is, the best solution to these kind of impasses tend to be local ones," said Ryan at Croke Park.

"What I would say is that we're aware of the situations in both cases. In terms of the Na Fianna question, I think there may well be, and if Na Fianna feel that they need help or assistance from ourselves, we'd be happy to provide guidance to the extent that they need it.

"In terms of the Kevin's question, I think the solution to that probably is a local one and you'd like to think that both clubs involved will be able to reach an accommodation that would be of mutual benefit."
