Tyrone's Niall Morgan on black cards and cupping ears

Listen to the full interview via the podcast

Last year's All Ireland championship was not the best experience for Tyrone's point-scoring goalkeeper Niall Morgan having missed most of the campaign with a knee ligament injury.

But fast forward to 2014 and Tyrone have got themselves off the mark in Ulster after beating Down in a replay.

Looking back on 2013 on tonight's show, Morgan spoke about an episode against Donegal in the Ulster Championship when he cupped his ears as a response to the crowd.

"Last year I let the crowd get to me. I cupped my ears etc and made a bit of a fool out of myself. But I've matured well since then and rest assured that will never be happening again," said Morgan.

Morgan touched on his penalty save and his much-discussed black card against Down for taking down Jerome Johnston, describing it as a "complete rush of blood to the head".

"I suppose my positioning was a bit off. I came out maybe a bit too far and maybe I took an outfielder approach of going to get the ball rather than staying on the line. I just got too close to him and he sidestepped him. Then it became this stage of as a goalkeeper you don't give away a goal handy and I took him down. Then I tried to talk the referee into giving me a yellow card which was never going to happen," he admitted.

He also discussed how football can be more exciting from a goalkeeping perspective without the sweeper system, even if it adds a greater threat to clean sheets record and the difference to goalkeeping in soccer after his experience with Dungannon Swifts.

Morgan also compared the difference between soccer and gaelic football penalties.
