Niamh McEvoy: "We've been waiting a long time"

Dublin claimed the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Senior football title with a 4-11 to 0-11 win over Mayo at Croke Park on Sunday.

A record crowd of over 45,000 watched as the women from the capital made it a senior double for Dublin GAA.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Oisin Langan after the match, Dublin's Niamh McEvoy couldn't hide here delight, saying: "It's a very proud moment for us as a group. We've been waiting a long time. I was very young in 2010 when we won that first one and I probably took it for granted.

"I thought that this was the norm and we would continue but it has been a long struggle back and I'm just very proud of the group and the management have done an outstanding job and it's just a special moment."

"We're used to playing in Croke Park now as a group. We've played in the last three All-Ireland finals and we were lucky enough to play in the National League this year - the LGFA and the GAA gave us that opportunity so thankfully we were just able to take it in our stride and just concentrate on ourselves and what we needed to do to get over the line.

"I think in previous years, probably our first year back here in 2014, there was a bit of jitters but this year it felt completely different. I just think we've grown so much as a panel," she added.

Reflecting on the contribution of manager Mick Bohan over the course of the season, McEvoy said: "Obviously the progress we've made under Gregory McGonigle was phenomenal - we couldn't get past the quarter-final stages until he came on board and he brought us a certain distance and he has been absolutely brilliant for us.

"Mick, obviously fresh blood this year, he really concentrated on skills and I feel as though he put a lot of trust in the players and everyone has kind of upped their game and it has been a brilliant experience."
