Ollie Canning: It looked like Tipperary were almost making it up as they went along

Ollie Canning and Jamesie O'Connor joined Thursday's Off the Ball to preview the weekend's hurling action.

Tipperary are on the back foot already after losing to Limerick on the opening weekend of the Championship and face a Cork side full of confidence after they overcame a game Clare side at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The Premier County were short a couple of players and Canning believes this led to a bit of confusion on the day.

"Just looking at the game, I just feel that Tipperary didn't look confident. I felt they got some chance scores the last day and they had some dreadful wides, to be fair. Looking at it yourself, you'd be disappointed yourself if you didn't nail them.

"They just look like a team that's lacking some confidence and there was just one incident in the game where a line ball over on the right hand side of the field as Tipp were playing down the field and I think there was two or three, and then somebody hit a bad one.

"Anyway, there was two guys standing over the line ball, kind of, debating who was going to take the line ball and then there was a bad line ball and the next guy stood up and hit a bad line ball, for me, that stuff should be sorted and guys should know their role and what they're doing and, for me looking on, that looked to me like these players were almost making up as they go along.

"Now, these are just small things I see in the game sometimes. There should be a dedicated guy to take a sideline ball and even if he does fluff the first one - if he's the guy that's chosen, he should take the next one as well - not to be swapping. It's almost like swapping your free-taker just because the guy missed a free, if you understand what I'm saying.

"So, there was definitely a lot of changes in personnel in that Tipperary team and, to me, they just looked like a team that don't have confidence.

"Now, it took all of what Limerick had to get over the line the last day but Tipperary scoring 2-14 with the quality of players that they have, and I understand that they have players coming back...they will improve things but I still think they have a couple of problems in the full back line."
