The Galvin effect has already taken hold of Wexford football

One of the main talking-points ahead of the 2020 Championship season, Anthony Masterson discussed the impact Paul Galvin's arrival has already had on Wexford's Gaelic football community.

After what was a momentous year for Wexford hurling that almost resulted in an All-Ireland final appearance, the county's footballers appear determined to be the main story in 2020.

Toiling away in lower reaches of Division 4, a first-round qualifiers exit drove the case for seismic change in Wexford football.

Enter Paul Galvin.

"The appointment has created that buzz around the football," explained Anthony Masterson on Wednesday's OTB AM, "the county board have made a statement by getting Paul."

A four-time All-Ireland winner with Kerry, the former Footballer of the Year comes to his first inter-county managerial role with little practical experience to speak of.

Nevertheless, it hasn't dampened the mood in Wexford.

"It is a gamble and there's no point in saying anything else," admitted Masterson, "because he hasn't got a huge amount of managerial experience.

"There was a buzz last night though when we were playing a club championship game on Tuesday night.

"Normally there would be a poor enough crowd at it, but there was a good buzz last night.

"Paul was there and you could hear the ripple going through the crowd that 'Paul Galvin is up in the stand' there watching the matches."

Three-years removed from his own playing days with Wexford, Masterson has become a focal point for people wishing to express their excitement.

"There are people approaching me in the street already looking forward to what Paul Galvin can bring to Wexford football," he revealed.

"From what I've heard, Paul is very keen and interested, a great thinker about the game, and talking to some of the lads, they're very excited about it as well."

During his discussion on Wednesday's OTB AM, Anthony Masterson detailed the work he is doing with the GAA at their All-Inclusive Cul Camps. A fantastic initiative, you can learn more about it by listening to the full interview here
