Paul Galvin retires from inter-county football

Eamonn Fitzmaurice has confirmed that Paul Galvin has retired from inter county football, one season after making his comeback.

The former Footballer of the Year was not involved in today's Walsh Cup defeat to Clare and after the game, Fitzmaurice said that the 36 year old Kerry stalwart will not return to the panel for the coming year.

Galvin originally retired in 2014 but made a surprise return to the panel during last season, and last pulled on the Kerry jersey in their All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin, when he came on as a replacement.

When quizzed about the players return to the Kerry fold, Fitzmaurice said  “Paul won’t be back, he is finished up. He got married and is moving back to Dublin. Other than that everyone else will be back.”

The half-forward appeared on 'Off the Ball' last November and had hinted that he would not return due to work commitments. (You can listen to the interview here)

Galvin enjoyed a distinguished career, winning four All-Ireland titles, three national league titles and three All Stars, including being named as Footballer of the Year in 2009.
