Plenty of questions remain to be answered after the Mayo County Board met privately last night, according to the Sports Editor of the Mayo News Mike Finnerty.

The meeting, held without media present, was expected to discuss the €250,000 raised at a function in New York earlier this year the Mayo Supporters Foundation is withholding from the county board.

However, this did not happen due to legal reasons and a county board spokesperson issued a statement to the Mayo News saying that a vote of confidence in the county board and executive was passed by all delegates.

Finnerty, speaking on Off The Ball, was amazed that so little information has been released regarding the issue since it first came to the public’s attention.

“It’s incredible to think at this stage we’re now six weeks since the initial county board meeting where these initial emails were brought into the public domain and brought into a county board meeting.

“Now, six weeks later, we still haven’t heard or seen discussed what exactly are the details surrounding that €150,000 donation.

“We still haven’t obviously heard the detail around the business plans and the €250,000 that’s being held in cold storage, as it were, in America. It still hasn’t been drilled down.

“The delegates haven’t had the chance to ask some specific questions or they haven’t asked some specific questions about a number of issues,” Finnerty said.

The issue has been further complicated after Charlestown Sarsfields GAA, Louisburgh GAA, Ballycastle GAA and Ardnaree Sarsfields GAA all released statements saying that no such vote of confidence in the Mayo GAA Executive took place.

The Mayo county board denied that claims of a motion of confidence were inaccurate as the four clubs suggested, resulting in more uncertainty.

“There are a lot of questions I suppose that remain unasked and unanswered within the county board arena due to a number of meetings being postponed and then obviously due to this legal correspondence coming into play once again last night,” Finnerty commented.
