Sinead O'Carroll on Mayo: "You didn't get a sense that they were going to let anything slip"

Mayo's epic win over Kerry was one of the topics on Off the Ball's Sunday Paper Review as Sinead O'Carroll and Andy Lee joined Joe Molloy to review the week's big stories.

Mayo will face Dublin again in this season's All-Ireland final and O'Carroll believes this might finally be the year the westerners end their hoodoo. "I'm already nervous as a neutral," she told Molloy, adding: "I'd like to see Mayo win an All-Ireland at some point.

"This coverage is already making me nervous for fans, for Mayo fans. What is interesting though is the words being used across the papers: 'ruthlessness', 'controlled fury', 'belief', 'conviction', 'warriors', 'aggression' - that's the tone across all of the pieces about yesterday.

"And that's probably something we haven't seen a huge amount from Mayo through 70 minutes in All-Ireland's - that conviction and belief hasn't always been the thing that shines through about them. And there was definitely in the last 10 minutes yesterday - you didn't get a sense that they were going to let anything slip which is something nice to see going into an All-Ireland final.

"There's a piece, I think in the Sunday Times, about how Waterford and handling the hype and they go back to 2008, saying 'in 2008 it was getting to the final was almost their final' and I was thinking about Mayo, it's the absolute opposite for Mayo this year. It's not about getting to the final at all and it probably was the same last year as well but there is no winning unless they take Sam this year.

"I think there's a feeling across the Mayo team that, I don't know, it was like the Kilkenny team in camogie last year, there was something about them, there was a belief there that they didn't have before and they knew going into that game that they were going to beat Cork and there's something about Mayo this year that reminds me of that," she added.
