Sligo appoint former Armagh star Tony McEntee as new football manager

Tony McEntee has been confirmed as the new manager of the Sligo senior footballers.

The former Armagh player takes the reins from Paul Taylor who stepped down from the role earlier this month.

McEntee has been handed a three-year term with the Yeats County footballers.

Sligo never saw Championship action this year as a spate of COVID-19 infections meant they couldn't fulfil their Connacht semi-final with Galway.

Taylor oversaw as disappointing Allianz National League campaign, with Sligo finishing third from bottom in Division 4 after just three victories.

McEntee's last taste of inter-county football saw him be part of Stephen Rochford's backroom team with Mayo, helping them reach the 2017 All Ireland final.

The Crossmaglen Rangers clubman will be assisted by Joe Keane. Sean Boyle will be strength and conditioning coach, with another selector to be appointed in the coming weeks.

During a glittering playing career, McEntee was part of the Armagh team that lifted the Sam Maguire in 2002.

With the Orchard County, he also won the 2005 National Football League, while he claimed four All Ireland club championships with Crossmaglen.
