St. Patrick's day club finals to be a thing of the past

The St. Patrick’s day club finals could be a thing of the past by 2016 following an agreement, in principle from the GAA’s Central Council to complete all club championship games, in both football and hurling, in the same calendar year.

The proposal was first made by the Football Review Committee last year.

A full examination of how the proposal could best be implemented will be brought to the Central Council later in 2014, with any changes coming into effect from 2016.

At today’s meeting it was also decided to re-launch the Inter-Provincial Football championship. However, proposals to re-vamp the Provincial Football championships into groups of eight and to abolish the semi-finals in the Allianz Football league Division One were turned down.
