Stephen Rochford: "We would like to think we were learning things from 2014"

Mayo and Kerry will have to do it all again after they drew their All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park on Sunday.

It finished 2-14 apiece and speaking to Off the Ball's Oisin Langan after the match, Mayo manager Stephen Rochford said: "We were a point down going into injury time. We got an equaliser but still had to stand back and watch Bryan Sheehan have a shot for the winner so you can have some feelings around being disappointed that you didn't win it or close out with, you know, the positions that we got ourselves into but at the same time there's relief you're still in there for next week.

Mayo deployed Aidan O'Shea to man-mark Kieran Donaghy and asked about the decision to do so, he said: "Well it's a little bit early for me to go into the level of analysis that we will give that. We would feel that we gave it a lot of logical thinking.

"We would like to think we were learning things from 2014, even back to 2006 so look, we didn't win the game so people are going to take the opportunity to say 'was this decision or that decision right' and that's fine with me. People can say what the bloody hell they want."

"What we need to look at, we had possession in the middle of the field and we turned it over being soft in the tackle. I don't think it was something creative or something that Aidan (O'Shea) did but he had three players running at him. So, to be fair, to that part of it, Kerry have top players.
