Tempting fate: Twitter users share images of 1992 trinkets

Details of Mayo’s plan for their victorious homecoming have been published.

Stephen Rochford’s charges are planning an open top bus parade through the main street of Castlebar next Monday to celebrate their victory over Dublin in the 2017 All Ireland SFC final.

The only problem is Mayo have yet to secure an RSVP from the guest of honour, Sam Maguire.

Details of their homecoming plan sent some Dublin fans into a frenzy on twitter, but Mayo are not the only team to tempt fate.

Dublin had a wide array of merchandise to celebrate their All Ireland victory in 1992... the problem is they lost the final to Donegal that year.

The Irish Independent detailed Mayo's plan should they emerge victorious from the All Ireland final.

One fan fumed: "Talk about premature.. win it first and then plan."

Dublin City Council are also making provisions for a homecoming event. They are banking on an event in Merrion Square on the Monday having decided not to show this Sunday's All Ireland football final on a big screen in Smithfield.

The €40,000 cost of putting it on, and poor turnout from bad weather for the last two years likely played a part in DCC's decision to cancel plans to screen the game to instead concentrate efforts on the homecoming event.

MAYO'S MONDAY PLAN

6pm : McHale Park reception

7.30/8pm: Team leave McHale Park
