"There's never really a good end to these situations" - Martin Breheny discusses player mutinies

Player mutinies have dominated the news for the past week and between the Galway hurler and the Mayo footballers, it seems that all is not well in Connaught.

GAA correspondent for the Irish Independent, Martin Breheny joined Ger and Wooly on the show tonight and discussed the players involved in the uprisings in both counties.

"I'm merely pointing out [in his piece today] that in the last four years that there have been instances in the last four years where both sides have come close to winning games, winning All-Ireland finals in fact and there have been matches where they haven't been seen out" he said.

"These teams were in good strong winning positions and didn't see it through. How can management be blamed for that?

"Take Galway this year in the All-Ireland final for example: they lead Kilkenny by four points after half an hour and proceeded to lose the next 40 minutes by 17 points to six.

"Those are the guys out there who are in the heat of battle, who see the challenges and who have to fix problems for themselves. In those situations I think players need to look at themselves instead of passing the blame onto management."

When asked whether the Galway uprising had larger roots which spread before the All-Ireland series, he said that the players should then be more forthright about their grievances.

"If that's the case, then players should come out and say 'We don't want Anthony Cunningham, we won't play for him' and let that be the end of it.

"I'll make it clear that I'm not standing up for the Galway management, but the players should just come out and say 'Here's what we want and we won't play under this management'."
