Tyrone progress after feeble second half display from Tipperary

Tyrone 0-19

Tipperary 0-7

Tipperary could only muster a solitary point in second half as they lost heavily to a well-drilled and free-scoring Tyrone side in Thurles.

As with any of the football qualifiers, both sides looked fiercely competitive and the feeling was that Tipperary had a chance to illustrate just how far they had come in footballing terms.

This was initially the case, Tyrone went in at the break leading by a single point and the expectation was for an even closer contest in the second half.

But to the disappointment of the Munster side and the fans, what unfolded was nothing more than a footballing exhibition from Tyrone.

The Ulster side raced into a three-point lead in the opening eight thanks to scores from Sean Cavanagh, Darren McCurry and Connor McAliskey.

Michael Quinlivan chipped in for the Tipperary and despite some nerves, the Munster side were still well in contention.

Tipperary stayed in touch and drew level on 19 minutes for the first and only time in the match.

Trailing by seven points to six at the break, The Premier looked to get off to a fast start, but it was the Red Hand who grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.

They surged ahead with seven unanswered points and to the dismay of Peter Creedon, cool heads did not prevail.

On 55 minutes, Tipperary were reduced to 14 men when substitute Liam Casey was dismissed for stamping just two minutes after entering the fold.

The game petered off and Tyrone kept the scoreboard ticking over, amassing an additional six points.

Tyrone now advance to the fourth round draw, while Tipperary will be scratching their heads to figure out where it all went wrong.
