Not even a flying GPS unit could put off Dean Rock as he slotted a clutch 76th minute free to keep Sam in Dublin.
Among the 82,000-plus crowd was his father and former All Ireland-winning Dub, Barney Rock.
He told Off The Ball that he was confident that his son would keep his head and put the free over the bar:
"I know what Dean’s like and I know his temperament. Nine out of 10 will go over the bar for him. He was in a rhythm, he’d scored four from play up till then. He’d scored a great free before halftime … I had no doubt that he had it in him to kick it over the bar.
"It’s the inner strength from having gone out and having done the training. The beauty about him is he does do his own training. He goes down early as Stephen Cluxton would have done, as I would have done, as Charlie Redmond, as Mossy Quinn. If you’re a free-taker you have to go and do your own frees."
He spoke to Oisin Langan at the Dublin team hotel the morning after the team won their third back-to-back All Ireland.
