WATCH: Kilkenny fans consoles Pauric Mahony after Thurles classic

One of the most memorable moments of Kilkenny's epic semi-final replay win over Waterford on Saturday evening came after the final whistle.

After chances to win the games in both Croke Park and Semple Stadium, the Munster side came out second best in one of the best encounters in recent years. Waterford's Pauric Mahony, the Ballygunner star, dropped to his knees after the loss, as Kilkenny's fans ran on to the field to celebrate the game.

As hundreds of fans ran past to the 24-year-old, two people stopped to console Mahony. Kilkenny half-back Kieran Joyce and an unnamed fan. While Joyce quickly ran off to celebrate with his teammates, the fan stayed with the heartbroken player.

It's a simple gesture, that shows how much the GAA is still part of the fabric of Ireland's sporting culture. The incident also brings back memories of the Euro 2016 final, when a young Portugal fan was seen consoling a France supporter in a Parisian Fan Zone after the game.
