'We can't let something this significant just be brushed aside'

Former Mayo manager James Horan believes the incident which left Dublin and Ballymun Kickhams footballer Davey Byrne with serious facial injuries should be looked into.

Byrne suffered a broken nose in an altercation during a challenge match against Armagh which the GAA will not be investigating as it was not included in the referee's report and it appears the video evidence has not been sent to them.

Horan was on Off The Ball tonight and having listened into Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson's talk with Dubs manager Jim Gavin about the incident, said: "The thing for me is that it's a challenge match. It's on the field of play and a player has been very badly injured. For me, that needs to be looked at by the relevant authorities."

He continued: "I'm not saying it's an act of thuggery but there wasn't something obviously serious going on and for the image of the game or how we want our game to be projected, we can't let something this significant just be brushed aside."
