Why O'Shea needs to start at half-forward

"I think he needs to be where he can get on the most possession, for me I'd play him centre half-forward," former Mayo manager James Horan told Off The Ball, when asked what role Aidan O'Shea should play on Sunday.

He added that his physicality makes him an important long kick out option.

"He can be very good at slowing down attacks," Horan continued, noting that he is likely to draw frees when he is in advanced positions.

"What he is is a very good tackler, he has very quick hands. He plants his feet and he can get his hands in very quickly and he gets a lot of turnovers per game," he concluded.

Mike Quirke also noted that he can become isolated when playing at full forward because he needs to depend on his teammates to involve him in the game.

Journalist Kieran Cunningham believes that he needs to take on, and create, more shooting opportunities from open play if Mayo are to keep pace with the Dubs on Sunday.

Last week, Mayo's current manager Stephen Rochford spoke to Off The Ball's Kevin Kilbane and discussed his decision to play O'Shea in a defensive position against Kerry.
