"Sore nether regions" are the price Carl Frampton had to pay for victory

Another win at the weekend means IBF World Super Bantamweight champion Carl Frampton is still to taste defeat as a professional.

But the fight was not a walk-over as the Belfast fighter was knocked down twice by Mexican Alejandro González, Jr in El Paso.

As Frampton told Off The Ball tonight, they were "two flash knockdowns" which did not do him any damage, but admitted that there may have been a touch of complacency pre-fight.

"I think as a team, we probably overlooked this guy a bit and we thought it was going to be much easier than it was. But he's a young Mexican, he had a young family, he had a big chance to upset me and he went out and had a brilliant first round. But luckily enough I pulled it back and got the win," he said.

Frampton also admitted that "there were mistakes made" in the preparation for the fight. But he also felt a few "alien" experiences like the "first time fighting away", a "misjudgment" with weight cutting and "being out of the comfort zone".

"I'm not going to put my head in the sand here. I know there were mistakes made, my teams knows there were mistakes made and we'll learn from them and I think I'll become a better fighter from it," he said.

But while the 28-year-old is physically fine post-fight he has a few aches and pains in a few areas - off the beaten track to say it another way.

"My hand is a little bit sore, in and around the nether regions are a bit sore. I took a few low punches. I had a big cup protector on," said Frampton, who joked that Gonzalez "went after" his privates.
