Middleweight champion Andy Lee says a fight with American Peter 'Kid Chocolate' Quillin is the best option for him.
A fight between the pair is due on April 11th in New York, and with then date confirmed, Lee joined us on Off The Ball to talk about the Quillin fight.
"I could've decided to fight in Ireland and maybe fought Billy Joe Saunders. Peter Quillin is the best challenger out there for me to fight. Outside of Golovkin, he is the highest rated middleweight out there. It means a lot to me to fight the best," said the Limerick fighter.
"The winner of this fight will be definitively recognised as champion and we've been dancing around each other, so to speak, for a while and it was only a matter of time before we crossed paths. Now we're going to find out who's the better fighter."
The 30-year-old, who says he has "his mojo back" also charted what has been a tumultuous 12 months in his career.
"This time last year, I didn't have very many prospects. I fought in April and couldn't get a fight anywhere and Adam Booth, my manager, paid for me and my opponent to fight in Denmark. From that, it opened the door after I won in eight rounds. From that, the John Jackson fight came and then from that, the fight with Korobov came in. Here I am a year later, middleweight champion."
Lee also predicted that the styles of himself and Quillin could see the bout end early for either fighter because of their punching power.
