Armstrong hopes for dope-free future for cycling amid renewed scrutiny

Lance Armstrong says that he hopes that cycling can have a clean future after and independent report claimed that doping is still a serious issue for the sport.

The Cycling Independent Reform Commission claims at least one respected current professional believed that around 90-percent of the peloton still cheat - although others have put that figure at far less than that.

The report also says that the UCI's previous leadership failed to follow anti-doping rules and showed preferential treatment to Armstrong.

Former UCI President, Pat McQuaid has admitted to making mistakes while he was head of cyling's governing body, but he has refuted claims that he favoured any riders.

In a statement, Armstrong said: "It is my hope that revealing the truth will lead to a bright, dope-free future for the sport I love."
