AUDIO: Coach Kavanagh cools talk of title fight in May

Coach John Kavanagh has told fans intending to travel to Conor McGregor's proposed title fight with Jose Aldo in Las Vegas next May to hold fire until details are confirmed.

Kavanagh gave a wide-ranging interview to Newstalk Breakfast this morning in which he told Ivan Yates that the UFC had yet to rubber-stamp any times or dates regarding on a world title shot for 'The Notorious'.

“It’s not 100 per cent yet," said the elite MMA coach. "There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year.

"I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announce. It’s not confirmed yet."

Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh shows Newstalk's Henry McKean some MMA moves today - you can catch the video on Newstalk.com this afternoon.

When Ivan asked when we can expect the fight, Kavanagh responded: “Mid-summer, maybe.” And where? "In Vegas, fighting capital of the world."

He continued: "Well I would certainly love it to be Ireland. Unfortunately, there’s a few problems. It would have to be in a stadium, maybe Croke Park. The problem with that is you have a curfew - 11pm it has to all shut down.

"They did a big event in Stockholm last weekend. But they didn’t start until 2 or 3am ... pay-per-view time in the States. They have a massive drop in revenue and also the cost of setting up Croke Park.

"We’re hoping to go over there and win the belt, and twist their arm a little bit more and get the first defence in Dublin."
