Rob Heffernan says this evening’s presentation of a retrospective bronze medal for the 2010 European Championships 20k Race Walk is “a dream come true”.
The Corkman spoke to Lunchtime today ahead of Sonia O’Sullivan presenting him the medal of behalf of European Athletics at Cork City Hall this evening (6.0).
Heffernan finished fourth in Barcelona but the winner on that occasion, Russian Stanislav Emelyanov, has subsequently been banned for doping.
“Sonia’s presenting,” said Heffernan, “so it will be a massive celebration. It’s brilliant, I’m absolutely delighted over it.”
Heffernan went on to say that tonight’s presentation makes up for the disappointment of four years ago, as well as giving a positive prognosis on his preparations for next year’s world championships and the Rio Olympics in 2016.
