Bertram Allen leads World Cup Showjumping Final

Wexford's Bertram Allen won the first event at the Longines FEI World Cup show jumping finals in Las Vegas last night.

The 19 year old is the only Irish representative of the 42 riders taking part in the event which concludes on Sunday.

Allen and his horse Molly Malone V topped the standings last night by finishing the course in 65.45 seconds. He finished 0.66 seconds ahead of American Richard Fellows and his horse Flexible.

The teenager is looking to be come the first Irish rider to win the event. Trevor Coyle in 1999 and Jessica Kuerten in 2006 have both finished as runners up in the event.

Allen, who went into the event in tenth place in the World Rankings has to more rides this weekend in his quest to win the title.
