"Beware the injured golfer"

Padraig Harrington's preparations for next week's Irish Open suffered a blow today as he pulled out of the Pro-Am ahead of tomorrow's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Harrington was due to play with a group of former rugby internationals including Keith Wood before a shoulder injury forced his withdrawal from today's event leaving his participation for the PGA Championship and Irish Open in doubt.

The Dubliner injured his shoulder in the gym yesterday and claimed in the shoulder inflamed overnight. He said in an "ideal world" he would have physiotherapy over the next ten days but is not in a position to do that with two big events on the horizon.

He is due to tee off with Shane Lowry and Branden Grace tomorrow at 12.40pm.

The course has changed in recent years after an Ernie Els re-design but Harrington claims the greens and swirling wind should suit him.

Nick Dye spoke to the three time major winner, earlier this morning.
