'As the fight wore on, I was certainly asking myself why he didn't throw his right hand more'

Judging from the reaction to Floyd Mayweather's victory over Manny Pacquiao, there was a sense of disappointment about the way it all panned out.

Experienced boxing writer Ron Borges told Off The Ball that people probably should have expected the style of fight that eventually took place in Las Vegas.

"In the lead-up, nearly all the stories were about how much money [Mayweather] was going to make and what the cost of ticket prices were. There was very little talk about the fight itself and the two fighters. If people had paid a little more attention to what was actually likely to happen, they would have had a better understanding that this was the type of fight it was going to be."

Borges also feels the booing towards Mayweather was down to the "bad guy image" he has cultivated.

As for Pacquiao's claim that he came into the fight with an injured right shoulder, Borges discussed the arguments over the rejected pain-killing injections prior to the fight.

"As the fight wore on, I was certainly asking myself why he didn't throw his right hand more and why was he so inaccurate with it. I think later those questions were certainly answered and today of course it was announced that he's going to have an operation and will probably be out from six months to a year. To his credit, Mayweather has come out and said he'll be willing to give him a rematch in a year once he's healthy."
