Bradley Wiggins signs up for a reality show, a week after retiring

Bradley Wiggins is to take part in the Channel 4 series The Jump, just a week after retiring from cycling.

The 2012 Tour de France winner announced his retirement last week after a career which saw him win eight Olympic medals, including five golds, along with World Championships on both the track and road.

"Skiing is a big passion of mine, it was a mix of that and the other committed names this year that made me want to sign up... I see this as a sporting challenge and want to go out there and win it. Just don’t call me a celebrity."

Wiggins' career has been tarnished in recent weeks with unanswered questions over the contents of a package that was given to the cyclist at the 2011 Criterium du Dauphine. Neither Wiggins or Team Sky have definitively revealed what was in the package.

His win at the Tour de France the following year saw him have a career-defining year, winning the time-trial road-race at the London Olympics only weeks later.

The 36-year-old is not the only former sports star competing in the series. Former England captain Jason Robinson, ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, Olympic champion Jade Jones and Paralympic star Kadeena Cox will also take part in the event.

'The Jump' is infamous for its dangerous conditions for competing stars. Last year, former gymnastics World champion Beth Tweddle broke two vertebrae whilst competing, while the series was blighted by contestant injuries.
