'Brandao is stepping into a bear pit' - Conor McGregor

Listen to the full interview above

If all goes to plan, Conor McGregor's rapid ascent through the ranks of the UFC will gain even more momentum - should he defeat Diego Brandao at UFC Fight Night 46 in Dublin this weekend.

McGregor was originally supposed to take on Cole Miller, but after the American pulled out, he was pitted against Brazilian Brandao.

Ahead of Saturday's fight night, Off The Ball's Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson caught up with McGregor and the Dubliner was in confident mood as he discussed the strengths and weaknesses of his opponent.

"Me, personally I believe he is going through his own stuff right now. I don't think he wants this fight. I think this fight was throw upon him. Seven weeks out Cole [Miller] pulled out and the UFC approached him. To be approached with something like that...I think he's in a bad place in his head," said McGregor, who described Brandao's style as "wild" and very much Ju Jitsu-based in his approach. He also believes that Brandao is not as "obsessed" or have the "hunger" that he has.

He also believes that Brandao will be stepping into a "bear pit" in his hometown and promised a "spectacular" ending.

While McGregor feels that there are always area of his game to work on, he also told Wooly that he feels "perfect" and "untouchable".

He also explained why he benefited from choosing Iceland as his initial training destination in the build up to tonight's fight.

"Iceland is an unbelievable place. The air is fresh, you're training surrounded by beautiful mountains and all this scenery. The food is phenomenal. Everyone in Iceland is very health-conscious so it couldn't be more perfect. To go and prepare for a fight, there's no distractions whatsoever," he said, before explaining the extent of the training regime in Iceland.
