Shane Lowry has had a weekend to forget in Turkey.

A brilliant round of 65 on Friday propelled him up the leaderboard at the Turkish Airlines Open and the Offaly man was just five shots off the lead at the halfway stage.

Two consecutive rounds of 75, however, have seen the Open Champion fall out of contention.

Three bogeys and two double bogeys on Sunday left the 32-year-old three-over-par for the day and one-under-par for the tournament.

That leaves him in a tie for 62nd alongside European Ryder Cup captain and fellow Irishman Padraig Harrington.

Both players finished up a massive 19 shots off the lead.

Lowry reflected on where the week may gone wrong for him after his final round.

"I don't know to be honest. I tried my best out there the last couple of days and it didn't really happen for me.

"Maybe I was expecting too much after my good day on Friday.

"I was thinking about it going around, it showed me that maybe I'm doing the right thing not going to Sun City."

Lowry sits 700 points behind leader Bernd Wiesberger in the Race to Dubai as he looks ahead to his final tournament of the season.

The Major winner is hopeful though of a positive performance.

"I'm not going to stand here and make excuses but I said I wanted to go to Dubai fresh so I'm excited for a few days off and then towards the end of next week I'll get the clubs back out and start doing a bit of practice in Dubai and get ready for that.

"Hopefully, I can go there and put up a good performance but like I keep saying no matter what happens in Dubai I'll be happy with what I've got at the end of the year.

"Dubai obviously is going to be a big week, if you can go there and play well and compete you've got a great chance.

"Because there is so many points available there is going to be a good few lads with a chance to win so I think it's kind of win the tournament or you won't win the Race to Dubai so I'll go there and try do the best that I can and see where it leaves me at the end of the week.

"I've done quite well there, I like the place, I like playing golf there, I'm excited to get there this week for a week off and then I'm sure I'll get a little bit of hunger back for golf at the end of the week and get out there and hopefully put up a good performance."
