'I was praying for a thunderstorm and thankfully it came true'

It was a long wait which bore beautiful fruit for Padraig Harrington this weekend.

Victory at the Indonesian Open was the Dubliner's first tournament victory since 2010 and also helped the three-time major winner to climb 100 places in the world rankings.

Already back in Dublin, Harrington shared his delight with victory on Off The Ball tonight.

"I'm thrilled. It's always nice to win. It's a good habit," Harrington told Joe.

But as he admitted, it was far from plain sailing and ended up with him praying to the heavens for adverse weather conditions.

"I came out tentative early on and made some mistakes. I really played poorly through the front nine. I was hanging on in there but had gone backwards. I was praying for a thunderstorm and thankfully it came true after nine holes," said Harrington, who said he slept during the ensuing rain delay.

But despite the joy of winning, he was also keen to put it in perspective.

"It's a win, I'll enjoy it but it doesn't make any huge difference to next year except for the fact that I did set out with a target last week to do some stuff and that stuff worked."

The 43-year-old also spoke about the way he analyses his shots and solutions in a way that he did not do as forensically in the past.

But he also revealed that he has been working with sports psychologist Steve Peters, who has been working with Liverpool FC, going on to discuss his "inner chimp" and why he no longer searches for perfection.
