"I'm here ready to compete" | new dad Jon Rahm pre Masters

Former Irish Open champion Jon Rahm is unconcerned by a lack of practice time at Augusta ahead of The Masters.

The world number three arrived in Georgia last night following the birth of his first child, Kepa, at the weekend.

"Thursday to Monday I didn't sleep much, I didn't hit a single golf shot," the Spaniard said when asked about his preparations for the first major of the year.

"Maybe I haven't prepared as much as I have in the past, but definitely mentally in a different state.

"A lot of times practicing for a major you spend so much time thinking about golf and for four or five days, it wasn't even on my mind, which is kind of refreshing.

"Coming here later than usual, but I'm here ready to compete. I wouldn't be here otherwise."

Rahm also admitted that it was difficult to leave his partner and their new arrival to play this week.

"Extremely. That was the hardest part. Monday thinking about it, I'm like, man, I'm going to have to leave, and that was not easy whatsoever. For the first few days it was even hard to leave her room if she was doing something with him and I had to go somewhere else.

"You know, it's all they talk about, right? All these instincts that come on. I had never changed a diaper in my life, apparently never really held a baby in my life, and as soon as it was my turn, somehow I knew what to do, and those protective instincts, as well, just came in and it was really hard to leave.

"But again, just knowing that they're both so healthy made it a lot easier. I'm not going to lie; that flight here, wi-fi wasn't working while they were on the visit with the pediatrician, so I was a little bit of a nerve wreck for those three hours, but besides that it's been a great experience."
