'I'm not going to lie, the last few months have been tough'

Listen to the full interview via the podcast

Shane Lowry has admitted that 2014 has been a trying year for him as the Irish Open draws nearer.

The 2009 Irish Open winner spoke to Ger at Fota Island and was candid about the difficulties he is experiencing.

"I'm just not holing putts. My putting has been very poor this year. It's just something that hasn't been going well. I just seem to find myself at that cut mark every Friday afternoon and it's not a nice place to be when you're not doing well," said Lowry, who also spoke about the mental pressure.

"I'm not going to lie, the last few months have been tough and there have been times when I've been sitting in my hotel room at a tournament and I've been quite down, where you're in this weird place on your own. But I'm not panicking at the minute."

Lowry also admits that the media scrutiny can be distracting for the Irish participants at the Irish Open.

"The week of the tournament, there's a lot of stuff going on and even today being down here [at Fota Island] there's a lot of attention. To be honest at the moment, it's unwanted attention because things aren't going well."
