Ireland eliminated from Cricket World Cup

Ireland have been knocked out of the Cricket World Cup after losing to Pakistan this morning.

Pakistan strode to a 241-3 scoreline to pass Ireland's 237 all out.

Things looked up for Ireland when captain William Porterfield racked up a century, but his team mates couldn't follow. Confident fast bowling by the Pakistani side meant Ireland would log a low 237, which would prove nigh on impossible to defend.

When the opposition came to bat, they played a slow and careful game, and were clear of 120 by the first wicket. There was some controversy in the last few overs, as the batsmen seemed to stretch things out to get Sarfraz his century, but Pakistan were clear winners.

Pakistan will go on to meet Australia on Friday, while the Irish team will head home with a record three victories - with two against test sides.

Porterfield spoke of Ireland's World Cup journey in his post-match interview:

"It is nice to get some runs but never nice to be on the losing side. We are disappointed not to have got more runs but they bowled well.

"It is disappointing to go out on net run rate but the way we started is good and we continued well with the batters stepping up and getting runs. A lot of credit goes to the bowlers as well for toiling away.
