Ireland on course to beat the UAE

Ireland need only one wicket tomorrow to ensure victory over the United Arab Emirates in the Intercontinental Cup in Malahide.

Only weather can now deny Ireland victory, with the Asian side still trailing Ireland by 28 runs. The UAE currently stand on 251-9 at the end of day three.

George Dockrell was the star of the Irish side, claiming four second innings wickets as Ireland look on course to start their Intercontinental Cup campaign with a resounding win.

The side were given an extra thirty minutes at the end of the day's play when victory seemed in sight but John Bracewell's side were only able to claim two of the three wickets needed to win with a day to spare.

Manjula Guruge and Mohammad Naveed will take to the Malahide field at 11am tomorrow morning hoping to score the 28 runs required to avoid an innings defeat.

Ireland will be delighted with their performance this week. The Intercontinental Cup has taken on added significance as the winners will be given the opportunity to obtain Test status in 2018.
