'We're talking about really odious behaviour towards women'

If you have not noticed, the most long-awaited and lucrative fight in boxing history will take place this Saturday between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

But tonight on Off The Ball, we wanted to touch on one of the aspects of the beyond the ring - namely, the portrayal of Mayweather.

We were joined by Julie DiCaro, who wrote a Chicago Tribune column entitled 'The Disgusting Media Whitewashing Of Floyd Mayweather' about the American boxer's incidences of violence against women.

"I think a lot of people had no idea that Floyd Mayweather had this kind of track record. He has been accused or either arrested or cited several different times by five different women. He has a huge history of the police being called to break up incidents that he was never arrested for," she said.

"A lot of Americans had no idea that he had this kind of history because it's been largely ignored in the media.

DiCaro also spoke about the Twitter movement #boycottMayweather and the reaction to Katie Couric's interview with him and an ESPN report on Mayweather's past in light of the accusations, and how some members of the public have jumped to the 38-year-old's defence.

DiCaro also said "it's shocking to me that the media has given him such a pass, particularly ESPN who have almost been like a mouthpiece for him."
