In 500 days Rio de Janeiro will host the first ever Olympic Games in South America. But how prepared is the Brazilian city.
Brazil-based Irish journalist Ewan MacKenna has visited some of the event sites and tonight he told Off The Ball that: "A lot of the shells are in place. So within 500 days, from that perspective, you kind of expect things to be ready. But much like the World Cup, what will be ready will be for the Olympics themselves at a huge cost. What won't be ready were a lot of the things that were promised that will be left behind for people there."
Ewan also suggested that the Olympics is set to "bypass" a lot of the city's large population, and added that the big controversy at the moment surrounds the golf course for the Games with question marks over the potential for corruption.
But is there the potential for the type of protests that were a possibility before the 2014 World Cup?
