Mark Allen scores his first career 147

Northern Ireland's Mark Allen made his first 147 break in competitive action on Sunday.

The 30-year-old recorded the maximum in the UK Championship, on the way to defeating Rod Lawler 6-4 in the Last 64. It beats the 146 he scored in 2010 at the World Championships. It was the first 146 break in the history of The Crucible.

Allen's maximum looks set to earn him £10,000. Each tournament adds a rolling £5,000 to the 147 prize-pot. As John Higgins recorded a maximum at the Northern Ireland Open earlier this month, Allen looks set to pocket the £5,000, plus another £5,000 for the tournament's high-break.

Speaking to BBC after the achievement, Allen said he was delighted to overcome the nerves, when he reached the final balls.

"It was a big buzz as I'd never made one on tour. I'm very happy and it was relief when the black went in - I was nervous and I was shaking."

"I went to the toilet afterwards to calm myself down and take deep breaths, control the breathing and take the shakes away."

He plays Wales' Ryan Day in the Last 32.
