Masters organisers to allow limited numbers attend Augusta

A limited number of patrons are set to be allowed attend this year's Masters.

Last year's tournament was postponed until November due to COVID-19, and played out behind closed doors.

The 84th edition of the Masters was won in convincing fashion by Dustin Johnson.

The state of Georgia has seen 10,299 people die with COVID-19. In the past 24 hours alone, there have been 17 confirmed deaths and 6,360 cases.

Those figures have been steadily increasing since the Masters was held at Augusta in November.

Despite this, there's optimism among organisers that they will be able to facilitate some fans when the Major rolls around again on April 5.

"Following the successful conduct of the Masters Tournament last November with only essential personnel," Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club Fred Ridley said, "We are confident in our ability to responsibly invite a limited number of patrons to Augusta National in April.

"As with the November Masters, we will implement practices and policies that will protect the health and safety of everyone in attendance.

"Nothing is, or will be, more important than the well-being of all involved.

"While we are disappointed that we will be unable to accommodate a full complement of patrons this year, we will continue our efforts to ensure that all who purchased tickets from Augusta National will have access in 2022, provided conditions improve."

Ridley also hopes to conduct the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals as scheduled with a small number of patrons on site.
