McIlroy seeking somewhere to plug in his batteries after missing Wentworth cut

Rory McIlroy says that he is in need of a rest after missing the weekend cut at the BMW PGA Championship.

The World No 1 has admitted that he could probably do with some time off to recharge his batteries ahead of next week's Irish Open, which he will be hosting at Royal County Down.

He endured a disastrous round of 78 at Wentworth today, which left him on 5-over par for the tournament and he was asked afterwards for his reaction.

"I'm not angry, just a little disappointed that I'm not going to be here for the weekend. But if there was any weekend to miss it, coming off three good weeks in the States ... I'm probably in need of a bit of a rest. I'd still rather be here, but it's not all bad getting to go home for the weekend," he said.

Franceso Molinari continues to lead by two shots on 10-under at Wentworth.

Shane Lowry leads the Irish challenge on 3-under par after a 67 this morning, with Peter Lawrie and Damien McGrane on level par.

Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke have also made the cut on 1-over.
