Rory McIlroy: 'Mentally I can feel myself getting a bit angry out there'

Robert Karlsson and Francesco Molinari share the lead on the opening day of the BMW Players Championship.

Karlsson carded a 5-under par 67 at Wentworth today, while Molinari has two holes left to play of his opening round.

Peter Lawrie heads the Irish challenge on 3-under par after a round of 69 today, with Damien McGrane a shot further back

But World No 1 Rory McIlroy is on one-under after a 71 and spoke about the effects of tiredness on the mental side of his game.

"Physically I'm alright, mentally I can feel myself getting a bit angry out there which I haven't been doing for the last few weeks, so I just need to stay in control of my emotions because I feel that's one of the things if I'm a little tired or a little fatigued mentally, I'll start to be hard on myself," he said.

Padraig Harrington is not in this week's field. The three time Major winner was forced to withdraw this morning due to a shoulder injury.
