NFL Recap: Patriots shock Cardinals despite Brady absence

They may be without Tom Brady for the opening game of the season, but the New England Patriots won what looked like their toughest test on paper, with a 23-21 win away to the Arizona Cardinals.

In his first NFL start, Jimmy Garoppolo threw for over 250 yards, and the Patriots returned home with an invaluable win. On the day it was reported that Larry Fitzgerald was to retire at the end of the season, the Cardinals wide-receiver scored two touchdowns, including the 100th of his career.

The Kansas City Chiefs recorded the comeback of the opening Sunday, with an overtime win over the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers led by 24-3 late in the third quarter, before Chiefs scored 30 of the next 33 points to start their season with a famous win.

Oakland's win in New Orleans was undoubtedly the game on Week 1. The Raiders scored two touchdowns in the final eight minutes, including one in the final 45 seconds to snatch the victory from the Saints. Wil Lutz missed a 61-yard kick with the final play of the game to win the game for New Orleans.
