CHART: How McIlroy's Grand Slam quest compares with the greats

One of the big narratives ahead of this year's Masters is whether Rory McIlroy will manage to complete a career Grand Slam of Major titles by the tender age of 25 (he turns 26 next month).

The Northern Irishman already has one US Open, the British Open and two PGA Championship trophies in his cabinet, and if he were to add the green jacket of the Masters this weekend, it would mean that his quest for all of golf's majors would have lasted just four years.

But how would that compare to the other golfers who achieved the career Grand Slam in the post-Masters era?

The ones who have achieved it thus far are Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods.

The chart below features Woods, Nicklaus, Hogan, Player and McIlroy (if he wins this year's Masters):

The blue line is Hogan who won his first Major in 1946 and completed his career Grand Slam in 1953.

The yellow line is Gary Player who's Grand Slam span goes from 1959 to 1965

The red line is Jack Nicklaus (1962 to 1966)

The purple line is McIlroy (2011 to 2015?)

And the green line is Tiger who took three years from his first Major to completing the Grand Slam (1997 to 2000)
