Portmarnock Golf Club to consider female members

Portmarnock Golf Club is considering allowing women to become members of the historic club.

It has been reported in The Irish Daily Mirror this morning that letters have been circulated to the clubs members informing them that the historic change has been considered.

Women are currently allowed play at the course which has hosted the Irish Open 19 times. Michael Campbell was the winner when the North Dublin venue last hosted the tournament in 2003.

The World's oldest and most famous golf club, The Royal and Ancient finally allowed women members earlier this year after 260 years of male only membership.

In 2012, Augusta National, the home of the Masters welcomed its first female members, including former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
