Ian Poulter on relaxing OCD, Paul McGinley and his route to the pro game

We all know about Ian Poulter's Ryder Cup exploits for Europe, but the OCD is something we are just learning about.

The English golfer has detailed some of his quirks in new autobiography No Limits and some include being irritated by creases in his trousers, the need for a perfectly ordered wardrobe, always straightening the clubs in his golf bag (as well as for others) and arranging pencils in the scorers' hut on behalf of scorers.

"It makes me nice and relaxed when things are nicely organised and I know where they are," said Poulter, in his interview with Joe on Off The Ball.

He also spoke out his distinct upbringing in contrast to his golfing rivals, having missed out on the private club route to the professional golf.

"I enjoyed my upbringing and I enjoyed what it meant," said Poulter, who was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire and recently brought his children to visit the house where he grew up.

He also revealed that he still had a signed golf ball from one of his heroes, Nick Faldo, from his time breaking into the sport, but conceded that his fellow Englishman's comment calling Sergio Garcia "useless" was an "unfortunate one".

"My reaction to that was that some of the players would lose respect of Faldo because of that comment which was a shame," he added.

Poulter also showered praise on 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley and explained why the Dubliner proved to be an inspring leader for his European troops, highlighting the subtle things in particular.

"You can't fake the adrenalin in the Ryder Cup. It brings a different feel to week in, week out golf. There is no comparison. Every major I've played since 2000...if you put them all together, it still doesn't get there."
